St. John's Day School

St. John's Day School means . . .

Convenience: Our scheduling options allow you more choice in choosing quality care for your child. Our location just off Rivermont Avenue is close to downtown Lynchburg and the Expressway.

Daily Interaction: The Day School doors are always open for visiting and volunteering in many different ways.

Family Support: The Day School is a ministry of John's Episcopal Church, both to its members and families in the community. Day School parents have the opportunity to attend information sessions, social gatherings, parent conferences, and other functions throughout the year or by request when needed.

Cooperation: Our staff will work with you in helping your child reach his or her potential. Teaching the whole child means complementing your role as parents.

Peace of Mind: Your child will be safe, contented and creatively challenged during his or her day at St. John's.

Staff

St. John's Day School staff members are chosen for their experience in the early childhood profession. Each teacher has training and experience in providing opportunities that develop a young child's social skills and intellectual growth. Their training will encourage the children to develop independence through adult-child interaction, positive support, warmth, and personal respect.

Our Philosophy

The purpose of St. John's Day School is to provide church members and community families the very best in growth and development experiences for their children. This is done with respect for children as individuals by talented and enthusiastic teachers. The Day School encourages the whole child's growth through goals firmly grounded in developmentally appropriate curriculum. Positive experiences in learning will encourage the child to grow spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially.

Registration

Parents and children are encouraged to visit the center prior to enrollment. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and tour the Day School with their child. A non-refundable registration fee is due with the submitted application. Click here for enrollment information.

A Child-Centered Environment

St. John's is a nine-month Day School for toddlers and preschool children ages 12 months through six years of age. We understand children and their needs, and are committed to meeting those needs. We select developmentally appropriate equipment and materials for our classrooms and playground. Programming, scheduling, and staff members' interaction with the children are also evidence of St. John's commitment to young children.

Curriculum

The early years are a child's most important years and we are dedicated to making care and education one and the same at St. John's. We encourage children to be actively involved in the learning process by exploring a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities and materials in an environment planned for a child. This means many opportunities to learn through supervised play: sand and water, art, music and movement, books, conversation with adults and peers, puppets, blocks, activities built around diverse and age appropriate development. Each child's needs and interests influence how the teacher plans the environment and the daily schedule. Child-initiated and teacher-directed activities provide opportunities for children to build decision-making skills, independence, and self confidence.
