Blue Skies Ministries Offering Day Hikes
Blue Skies Ministries is offering day hikes through the winter for the members and friends of St. John’s.
The next hike will take place on Saturday, March 10. So far this year we have ventured to Mount Pleasant, Matt’s Creek Shelter, Three Ridges, Terrapin Mountain (possible future outreach project) and Rocky Row Run. We will have several hikes lined up and select the one that best meets the demographics of our group on the morning we leave. Possible hikes for March include the Devil’s Marble Yard (no connection to Lent); Cole Mountain; Cornelius Creek; and Spy Rock.
The outings have been inspirational, offering spectacular views, gorgeous stream/ water falls, and serenity. If you haven’t made it yet, know that the trails are very accessible to all ages, and equipment needed is minimal: (boots or sturdy shoes), small pack, water, lunch type food and possibly a walking stick.
We meet at the church at 8:00 a.m., carpool, and journey to the trailhead. Usually, we have lunch around noon either on a peak or by a stream and return to the church by 3:00. This month, we’ll park in the bank’s parking lot.
