Lynchburg Community

St. John’s Episcopal Church is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. We are nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain range and bordered by the historic James River.  The area offers numerous historic sites, one of the best urban trail systems in the Commonwealth and many excellent cultural and recreational opportunities.  The City of Lynchburg is about 50 square miles, it is located near the geographic center of the state. Lynchburg is a vibrant city with a strong sense of community, economic opportunity for all, and natural beauty.  

Lynchburg boasts great health care, an outstanding public school system, and numerous choices of excellent elementary, middle and secondary private schools.  The Lynchburg area is home to nationally ranked colleges and universities: Randolph College, University of Lynchburg, Sweet Briar College, Liberty University, as well as our excellent local community college, CVCC.

The surrounding area offers hiking nearby on the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  There are opportunities to swim and enjoy watersports on Smith Mountain Lake as well as skiing at nearby Wintergreen Resort.
