ST. JOHN’S DAY SCHOOL

St. John’s Day School Embraces Children and Invites Them To Love Christ, To Love Learning, And To Love All People!

  • We continually invest in our school facilities. We have a newly updated playground with equipment specifically designed for children age 1-5 years old and a soft turf ground surface. We invest in new classroom toys, manipulatives, and resources yearly. We rely on learning through hands on play and activities and use limited technology or screen time. We have a school library and science center.

  • All students are introduced to Spanish with age appropriate lessons and activities weekly.

  • Each student attends a weekly class with Melody Makers. They learn about the fundamentals of music, key composers and they have a lot of fun! They put what they have learned to work in our Christmas and Spring concerts.

  • Weekly chapel time fosters the spirit of each child and celebrates our connection to God through the mediums of story and song.‍ ‍

  • We use the award winning Learning Without Tears program. Its multi-sensory approach addresses different learning styles and invites active participation. Development builds on what children have previously learned and inspires confidence in this important building block in elementary school readiness.

We would love the opportunity to show you our school. Please contact the Director, Amy Panzer for a tour.

Curriculum

  • Toddler Classes: Ages 1 & 2
The children practice important social skills such as trusting others outside their families. In addition, assertiveness is learned in socially acceptable ways through participating in daily circle time and attending chapel, Spanish, music weekly and Baby Doll Circle Time. During Baby Doll Circle Time, teachers lead students in fun, engaging activities in which the children interact with their baby doll. Lessons are designed to develop executive skills including attention, self-regulation, language, and spatial awareness. Ratio for teacher to student is 1:4.

  • The Caterpillars: Ages 2 & 3 years
Children practice important social skills while engaging in Circle time, Free play, Small group activities, and story time. We focus on developing strong fine motor skills through games, crafts, and activities. Children enjoy daily playground time and weekly Chapel, Spanish and Music. The ratio for teacher to student is 1:7.

  • The Butterflies: Ages 3 & 4 years
Thematic units are used in promoting sensory-based learning, and an overview of the alphabet is incorporated during the school year. Children begin to focus on handwriting and sensory based learning. They enjoy weekly chapel, music, library and Spanish lessons. Ratio for teacher to student is 1:8.

  • Pre-Kindergarten: 4 years
The learning environment in the classroom is geared toward developing social, academic, and behavioral skills in order to promote a smooth transition to Kindergarten. We use the Learning Without Tears Curriculum. A typical day will include, morning work, circle time, free play, small group activities and playground time. Weekly activities also include Chapel, Spanish, and Music. The ratio for teacher to student is 1:9.

  • Pre-Kindergarten: 5 years
Our FIVES class is specifically designed for children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten but need an additional year of preschool to make the transition. While building upon academics and skills learned in PreK4, we use the Learning Without Tears “Jump start to Kindergarten” curriculum.

  • Experiences for Your Children
SJDS features a newly updated playground with soft turf ground surface, Weekly Chapel, Spanish and Music class. Yearly Halloween and Mardi Gras parades, Holiday Parties, Community Hero Month, Christmas and Spring Concerts, Grandparents Day , and a PreK graduation ceremony!

I can say without reservation that St. John’s was the perfect fit for our family. It is a wonderful, nurturing place where children are encouraged to explore their independence. SJDS helped each of our children to be well prepared both socially and academically as well as to be successful in Kindergarten.
