The Christmas decorations may be packed away, but the season’s story continues. On Sunday, January 17, at 4:00p, join us at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg for an Epiphany Procession filled with organ music, choral anthems, hymns, and readings.
Presented by the Lynchburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, this service brings together St. John’s Choir and St. Paul’s Choir, with organists Peggy Haas Howell and Summer Jenkins. It’s an opportunity to hear these musicians together and experience a historic tradition that explores the meaning of Epiphany: God’s light revealed in Christ.
What is an Epiphany Procession?
This historic liturgy follows three important moments in the story of Jesus: the journey of the Magi, his baptism, and his first miracle at the wedding in Cana. Through scripture and music, the service connects these stories and invites us to consider what they reveal about Jesus—and what that light might mean in our own lives.
If you’ve never attended an Epiphany Procession, no preparation or familiarity with the tradition is needed. The readings and music offer a way into the story, whether you come with a lifelong love of sacred music, curiosity about the season, or simply a desire for a thoughtful Sunday afternoon.
An invitation to the community
We invite our Lynchburg neighbors to join us for this gathering of local choirs and organists. Bring a friend who enjoys choral and organ music, come with family, or take some time for yourself to listen and reflect as the new year begins.
