In Spite of It All: Spirituality for when life gets hard

A LENTEN GATHERING: SPIRITUALITY IN SPITE OF IT ALL

Life these days feels non-stop to so many people. How do we hold on to our faith, our rootedness, and our spirituality when some days feel like they just won’t end? How might we be a spiritual people, a light to the world, in spite of it all? In spite of the challenges we face as individuals, families, communities, and a country?

Join us at St. John’s Wednesday nights for the beginnings of an antidote. After a community meal, we will pause to listen, to learn, to slow down, and to find ourselves amidst all “the changes and chances of this life.” (Book of Common Prayer 133). Father Ben and a guest speaker each night will lead us in a short meditation and a conversation, with time for table discussions and questions as well. Dinner is served at 5:45p, and the evening will end by 7:00pm. Dinner is provided by Market at Main Catering and by you! Sign up to bring a side, dessert, or serve the meal. A freewill offering will be taken to offset costs. All are welcome, especially friends, visitors, and guests!

Can’t make Wednesday nights, or want to continue the conversation? Chapel Chat will offer conversations connected to our Lenten series each Sunday following. Come to both, but if you miss a Wednesday we will catch everyone up on the conversation Sunday morning!

Children: We look forward to keeping the season of Lent with our St. John’s children. Nursery (4 & under) and children’s programming (Pre-K to 5th Grade) is provided each night during the adult’s programming. Children 1st-6th grade are invited to our Lenten Children’s Choir, which meets from 5:00-5:50p in the choir room before the supper. Contact Peggy Howell to sign up! Youth are welcome to volunteer with Mrs. Lalla or join the conversation!

Our Program outline for Adults is below; Each night we will take up one of these five topics:

  • How do we stay grounded in spite of the pace of everyday life?

  • How do we get along in spite of political differences?

  • How do we rest in spite of everything we have to do?

  • How do we focus in spite of constant interruption via phones and social media?

  • How do we trust God in spite of the mistrust in our culture and communities?
